Definitions

“Tribe” means an indigenous group of indigenous people connected by family ties, or, one (1) or more clans.

"Clan" means an indigenous family group consisting of one (1) or more families.

“Chief” means the chairperson, or leader, of a tribe or clan.

Part 1 - Purposes of this act

To provide a legal framework for tribes and clans to be established, and continued, to represent the interests of their indigenous members within the Salish Nation.

Part 2 - Tribe Purposes and Principles

A tribe or clan shall represent the interests of its members within the Salish Government.

Part 3 - Membership Application

A tribe or clan shall be incorporated into the Salish Territorial Goverment upon the Salish Council’s approval of the submission of a signed and dated application.

Part 4 - Revocation of membership

A tribe or clan's membership shall be revoked by unanimous vote of the Salish Council.

Part 5 - Tribal leadership

Leadership of a member tribe is according to each tribe or clan's customs and laws.

Part 6 - Tribes and the Legislative Assembly

The chairperson, or chief, of a tribe or clan shall sit on the Salish’s Legislative Assembly, as a Class ‘B’ member of the Salish under its bylaws

The chairperson shall have all rights granted under the Salish’s Legislative Assembly charter.
